This study has a purpose to verify the mediating effect of parental attachment on a relationship between emotions and career barriers, related to school dropouts that out-of-school adolescents experience. For the purpose, it utilized the 5th Dropout Youth Panel Survey that the National Youth Policy Institute provided, and it adopted a total data of 262 out-of-school adolescents. As a result, first, this study found there is a significant correlation among the psychological emotion, the parental attachment, and the career barriers out-of-school adolescents have experienced, related to school dropouts. The school dropout-related emotion had a significantly negative correlation with the parental attachment and it had a significantly positive correlation with the career barrier. Also, the parental attachment showed a significantly negative correlation with the career barriers. Second, this study found that parental attachment has a complete mediating effect on the relationship between the school dropout-related emotion of out-of-school adolescents and the career barriers. This result means that the negative psychological emotions, which out-of-school adolescents experience under the school dropout condition, could affect the career barriers through the parental attachment. Based on the results, this study suggested a counseling approach in order to resolve problems of the psychological emotion of out-of-school adolescents and their career barriers.
